![]() Ergo, you are plugging a relay into position #7 on your van's CE1 panel and attaching wires shown in that diagram onto the corresponding pins on the panel's back side.Ĭ22 and B16 go to/come from fuse #6 (not shown in that diagram you will need to put a fuse in that location if it's currently not in use) Relay position #7 (lower left corner) is the fog light relay position in most, if not all, CE1 panels. The later vans use what is known as a CE1 panel. This is how I am planning to wire my fogs, but I can't find a wiring diagram of how the relay should be wired in. Posted: Sat 3:52 pm Post subject: Porsche fog light switch wiring positions? That switch is covered on this thread, which maybe helpful to you: Switch numbers as shown on the back of the switch are. I have seen other diagrams but the numbers were not the same. I have added a diagram that with some expert help I can get posted with all of the positions in case others are trying to figure out the same. The Hella lamps only have three wires on the switch but I wanted to go with a stock look on the dash instead of drilling a hole. I am installing a Porsche fog lamp switch in my 90 Carat. From what I have found is a #74 wedge style. I see the track from 83b terminal that runs to the light bulb but why two terminal tabs on the bulb holder? I understand it needs a ground.but why two?Īnd I am looking for LEDs instead of the original bulb (N177512). My question is.how do you wire the light buld. I have the VW fog light switch and realize that it lights up the front fogs or the front and rear fogs. Posted: Thu 5:57 am Post subject: Re: VW OEM Fog Light Switch Wiring There is a NOS switch listed in the classifieds. Yeah saw those, was hoping for a new or reproduction if possible. Posted: Thu 10:25 am Post subject: Re: VW OEM Fog Light Switch Wiring You need the 1.6mm female pins to clip into the moulding to get your supply for the switch. I only needed the rear so I didn't pay attention to the front pins. Grey/white is output to rear via a clip on fuse above the fuse box just as the instrument illumination fuse. Headlights need to be on for the fogs to work.įeed to switch is from B20 from memory, grey/yellow wire, 1.5mm With the ignition on and the head lamps lit the relay passes power to the switch. You need a "53" relay in position #7 in the fuse box We need them for our annual safety test in the UK, the van came from Lapland and didn't have anything other than the front to rear wire. Posted: Sun 3:29 pm Post subject: Re: VW OEM Fog Light Switch Wiring I've put a few feelers out to aftermarket suppliers to see if they are interested in reproducing them, just waiting to hear back. Vw classic parts were looking into reproducing them however the quote back from the original manufacturer (TRW) was too expensive I'm told and the project stalled. Oh, and switch is obsolete and not available as yet on the aftermarket. Our rear lights / side lights are on the bottom row, in the middle. Our rear lights are wired differently to yours. Posted: Sun 3:35 pm Post subject: Re: VW OEM Fog Light Switch Wiring The lights are on the same spot on the fuse box as my high power headlight relay (spliced in connection).Īnyone able to provide me with any direction on how to wire this is? (82 Air cooled)īasically just want to swap the switch. The hella switch has three prongs, 12V, ground, and relay trigger. I thought it would be as simple as popping out the green rocker switch that came with the lights, but it doesn't seem to be. So I've got one of the 3-position fog light switches to use with my Hella 500 Series fog lights (same kit all the vendors sell).
